Is It Safe Yet?

Has the Valentine’s mania finished? Another year, another consumer bonanza in the name of “love.” I’m all for love and being nice to each other. But we can do that any day.

Here’s my anti-Valentine’s gift to you—some conversation hearts without the chalky taste.

You should try making your own hearts.

Sticker Sisters Turns 10

This year is Sticker Sisters’ 10th birthday. Yay!

But it’s kind of bittersweet because it makes me think of all the great projects I’ve seen come and go. RIP Alien Girl, Two Girls and a Garage, and the Ladies Art Revival. But I’m happy to say that some of Sticker Sisters friends, like Bitch magazine and One Angry Girl, are still going strong. And there are always new projects springing up like Debri Field and The F-Word Zine.

So what should we do to celebrate?

Making Veggie Cards with My Sister

I don’t know how many times people have asked if Sticker Sisters is something I started with my sisters. And I have to explain that I didn’t mean for “sisters” to be taken so literally. It’s more like sisterhood through stickers, than sisterhood through the same parents.

When we were little we did collages, paper Mache masks, and other art projects together all the time. Then Claire went on to art school. If it wasn’t for her, my walls would be bare!

So when she started making these veggie people a few months ago, I thought it would be awesome for us to collaborate and make cards out of them.

Ariel making wire arms for veggie girlsClaire paints the faces, sculpts the veggies, and takes the pictures. Sometimes I help bend wire for the arms, but mostly I take care of turning them into cards.

So far we’ve turned three of the veggie girls into cards. Over the winter holidays we watched some movies and got them all packaged. Each package has six cards (two of each design), six envelopes, and comes in a shiny clear sleeve.

You can give the whole set as a gift or use them individually. Check them out and let us know what you think!
