From Election to Holidays

Ariel and Tamika at the ConventionsNow that the election is over, I can finally come up for air! The day job took me to the Democratic National Convention, the Republican National Convention, and all around Southern California doing election-related coverage.

It was all very exciting, but after the number of sexist comments I heard I’m even more passionate about Sticker Sisters and the work that still needs to be done.

Please consider donating money, time, or even some “Girls Can Do Anything” stickers or school supplies to an organization that does important work with girls. If you want to give people suggestions of organizations please post them in the comments.

And with the upcoming holidays, I hope you’ll give gifts with a message. At Sticker Sisters, of course, you can choose from dozens of stickers, t-shirts and other goodies with celebratory, encouraging messages for girls of all ages.

My daughter Naphtali is a part of Camp Ophelia which is a one week day camp empowering pre-teen and younger teen girls to overcome peer bullying while building their self esteem. This summer will be her third year as a member and she absolutely loves it and takes the lessons learned from it long after camp had ended.

Camp Ophelia is based in Delaware County, PA holding one week sessions in many of the county's boroughs.

Girls are taught skills to help them cope and deal with peer to peer bullying at school and among their friends. At the end of camp they put on a play for parents and friends depicting how bullying effects a person's morale and how to beat it and feel good about yourself.

Camp Ophelia was started by a young woman, now a doctor, who knows first hand how peer to peer bullying is a problem that many young girls struggle with.

Camp Ophelia would be a great recipient for anyone interested in donating girl empowering gear, stickers and goods such as those offered on Stickersisters. If I could, I would buy some myself and proudly give them to the camp for this upcoming summer session.

Keep doing what you do and I can't wait to get my shirts,

Sincerely,
Dolie Jacobs
Mother of Naphtali Jacobs, a sticker girl in the making ;o)
